Valentine’s day is celebrated on 14th February every year to mark the day of ones loved ones. This day has been named after the priest who started it all – St. Valentine. The day was initially dedicated only to ones beloved. But as years passed by, other saints felt that a day for love should not only be marked for ones beloved but it could also be a day to express love for anyone who is loved, be it parents, siblings or friends.

Ideally there should not be any single day to express love but since it has been the tradition for centuries, Valentine’s Day is when people write letters to express their feelings for their loved ones. The day is associated with cupid, the angel of love, flowers, balloons, cards, letters and the color red.

A Valentine Letter is written for an individual’s beloved, who is the reader or the recipient of the letter. It could be a letter to express one’s feeling of love or to apologize for something wrong that has been done. Since a Valentine Letter is always a personal one, the language used can be simple and casual. The tone should be of love, compassion and care. A hand-written Valentine Letter always gives that personal touch to the letter. Efforts should be made to write the letter when one is in a good and romantic mood.

A Valentine Letter can be written to express love for one’s Valentine or for apologizing to the Valentine for a mistake that one may have committed.

SAMPLE VALENTINE LETTER

(This is a letter written to your Valentine apologizing for a mistake done)

Dear __________ (first name of recipient)

I hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits. I too am doing fine here, as much fine as I can do without you.

I am so sorry for the way I behaved on the day we went out for dinner. I just got carried away in the discussion and said things to you that I now think I shouldn’t have said. In fact I realized my mistake that very moment and should have apologized then only. Anyways “better late than never” right?

You know that you mean the world to me and I would love it if you forgive me. I want to meet you again and make up for the previous day.

Love and take care
