The world is full of people who have all sorts of suggestions for you. A suggestion can be advice, a solution to your problem or a way to overcome the existing problem. Not always do we find people who give us the most useful, the most viable and the most applicable solution to a problem that we are facing. That is because it is very difficult to empathise with and feel the severity of a problem and then solve it like your issue.
If someone gives you a suggestion that you know you can’t follow and you know wouldn’t ever resolve your issue, then it is your duty to tell them that their feedback is much appreciated but isn’t quite useful. Also sometimes, the solution given to you is so absurd that it is mandatory on your part to send them a letter, explaining to them that the solution they gave is only going to add on to your problem. Writing such a letter is a tricky job as the receiver must not feel hurt or disparaged and should also be able to understand properly how and why his suggestion was useless.

Dear Mr Malcon,
Thank you for your great suggestion, on how we could use the left-over budget money. I can tell you have given a lot of thought to your idea, and if I had received your memo three weeks earlier, perhaps we would have used it.
I am sorry to inform you that we have already allocated the money, but I think you will not be too disappointed with our decision, to give the money to the local library to benefit our community’s children for many years to come.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I am pleased that other members of our society also feel that we should donate the money to charity.

I would like to thank you for your wonderful ideas on how we could use the remaining money we earned through our festival. They were certainly very thoughtful and practical. However, the board had already decided as to what they wanted to do with the money.
If we had known of your ideas earlier, we would have certainly gone ahead with them. We would like to let you know that the board has decided to donate the money to an old age home. I am sure you would be glad to know this. We certainly appreciate your insight in this matter and would possibly consider them in future. Do keep writing to us with your suggestions and ideas.
Thank you again for your contribution towards the greater good of our community.
