Explanation for Delay of Partial Shipment

Last Updated On September 17, 2018 By Letter Writing

One among the key definitions in a credit transaction letter is partial shipment. Every letter of credit that is requesting presentation of a transport document such as a bill of lading, air waybill, road consignment note, rail transport document etc. must indicate whether a partial shipment is allowed or not allowed.

Partial shipment means that a part of the total order that had been placed, only a part has been shipped and will reach on time while the rest of the order has been delayed, but if the customer continues with the order, it will be delivered, but at a date later than what was asked by the customer.

The reason for partial shipment may be due to miscommunication between the shipping company and the customer. It may be due to the delay of shipments in reaching the docks due to customs problems or the ship requiring repair mid sea due to problems incurred.

Sub: Explanation for Delay of Partial Shipment

Dear Mr Joseph,

I am writing this letter to inform you that your shipment order number MUB5623143, placed with our company on 6th September 2013 that had to reach the Mumbai Port on 21st October 2013 has been partially delayed.

The reason for this partial delay in shipment is that the vessel transporting your shipment had broken down mid-way from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai Port. Part of the cargo of the vessel was sent through a different ship which will reach on the originally affirmed date of 21st October 2013 while the rest of your shipment, which had to be transported through another vessel will be delayed by a week.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

Regards,

Edward Brown.
