An Authorization letter is a document that gives official permission to a person to conduct a particular work or carry on certain tasks on behalf of another person. This letter is written to a higher authority seeking permission from them to approve and bind the contract of Authorization. The essence of this contract/letter is good faith, no personal interest, honesty, and urgency. It simply comes into existence when a person is unavailable to do a particular work/task/duty, then he/she may appoint someone else to do the thing on his/her behalf.

It is bound by a legal contract, once approved. There are merely two parties to contract. If it is a business authorization, then it is undertaken by a co-worker, colleague, office friend, etc. In informal/personal authorization letters, parents, relatives, friends, family members are the opposite party to the contract. Such an agreement requires proper care as it can also be misused. The idea is to pass responsibility to someone who is capable and worthy of holding it.

Tips to write a Sample Authorization Letter

  • When you are delegating your duties to someone else, it is essential for you to provide the delegate with relevant information that is required for getting the work done.
  • Essential details about the person whom you want to authorize must be mentioned in the body of the letter, to prevent misunderstandings or errors. For example, the name and relation of the person.
  • Keep it short and formal, but don’t forget to specify all the material information.
  • Give your details like residential address, contact number or email id, for the firm to contact you in the case of an emergency.
