A letter of sympathy is written to express one’s feelings to an individual who has lost someone very close. The letter may offer the receive some emotional support and mental solace.

The life of the deceased is celebrated and all the good times are remembered. Convey your sympathy in such a way that it is soothing and sensitive.

Use formal language such as; loss, passing, time of sorrow. You can also express solidarity by acknowledging the difficulty of accepting the catastrophe.

The words in this letter must come from the heart, and you must write it in a polite and gentle tone. There are no rules for writing this letter, but you must try and keep it as brief as possible.

  • The loss must be acknowledged, and you must mention how disturbed you are feeling after hearing the news.
