Letter to a Best Friend

Last Updated On July 13, 2018 By Letter Writing Leave a Comment

A letter to a best friend is an informal letter, written in the most casual of contexts and with only the most genuine and friendly of undertones. A letter written to a best friend is perhaps the perfect example of an informal letter. Letters written to one’s best friend have to contain lots of references to personal matters, to social gatherings, to family and other friends, as well as to other peripheral things such as academics, exams, deadlines etc.

Writing these letters are a good way to keep in touch even if you live far from each other. Such letters also serve as a memento of your friendship. Writing a letter to a best friend is probably the easiest and the most effective way to show one’s gratitude and love towards each other. Hence, this type of letter is very popular.

Letter to a Best Friend Writing Tips

  • Since this letter is an informal one, be sure to use a lot of interjections (exclamation marks). Go down your memory lane and use anecdotes.
  • Informal letters will always contain a lot of references that a third person or a stranger might not understand. Especially in the case of one best friend writing to another best friend, the references used while writing might be utterly incomprehensible to a stranger. Conversely enough, in the case of a formal letter, one can easily understand what the situation is or what the problem being addressed is. This is one of the principal differences between an official letter and an unofficial letter.
  • Let the tone of the letter be casual. Being funny at times makes the letter even more relevant.
  • Use salutations like “Dear ___” (name of your best friend), “Hey BFF” etc. to start your letter. You can also start wth a nickname that you call your friend with.

Hi Hash!

Its been so long. How is everyone in London? Hope you guys are doing great. My annual college production is round the corner and i am playing the lead in our play. How cool, isn’t it? Remember how we used to play our acting games when we were little? it was so much fun.

How is your music school going on? Did you make any new friends? I heard that your school came first in the nationals. Congrats on that. We are celebrating once I come back.

I’m missing the food there. Here, everything tastes so different. And the hostel mess timings are so uncomfortable for me. Its been a hard few months in here.

The academics are crazy here. I am working on three papers right now and i have my internals next week. Things have piled up for them. That’s why wasn’t even getting a chance to talk to you. Our video chat is pending!

Enough about me, though. You have to write back soon. I’m waiting!

Love,

Aria
