Letter of Transmittal

Last Updated On August 13, 2018 By Letter Writing Leave a Comment

A letter of transmittal is usually written to banks or any financial institution; the financial institution could be an individual too. It is not commonly used in domestic deals, mainly used to transfer funds to a person, a financial institution or anybody for that matter, who does not live within the domestic boundaries of the country. It requests someone to transfer funds to the account of another, clearly stating the reason for the same. It does not requests transfer but instead approves of it. It can be easily said that it is a letter of approval towards the transfer of funds from one bank account to another.

Since this letter holds so much significance and carries sensitive information like account number, account holder’s name, bank account details, etc. , special care should be taken that only the person for whom it is drafted, should receive it. It holds legal importance, so it is advisable for the receiver to keep a signed copy of it, in the case of legal issues. It is a financial letter. It is usually enclosed with a document supporting the reason for which funds are supposed to be transferred, i.e., invoice.
